Gurgaon: Second accused in gang-rape of college student arrested

College student was kidnapped and raped in car by 2 youths

The second accused in the Farrukhnagar gang-rape, in which a college student was allegedly abducted from outside her college and raped in a car, was arrested by the police on Friday morning. The accused identified as Lalit, 21, was arrested in the morning and the Maruti Swift used in the crime was also recovered from the accused, the police said.

The two accused persons was produced in a local court, which remanded them in one day’s police custody for questioning. Another accused in the case, identified as 24-year-old Pawan, was arrested by the police late on Thursday evening. The accused are residents of a village near Farrukhnagar.

The college student was allegedly abducted from Khandewala morh, near her college by the accused in their Swift They took turns to rape her in the car and also threated her with dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone, the complainant told the police.

She told the police that as she tried to fight off the accused they said that they could have even brought 20 people to rape her and she could have done nothing to prevent it. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case of gang-rape was registered by the Farrukhnagar police on Wednesday.

“A special meeting was called to discuss steps to check crimes against woman on Thursday evening. However, when the police commissioner saw that officials investigating the case, including the station house officer (SHO), Farrukhnagar were in the meeting, he was infuriated. He immediately asked the SHO to rush to his area and ensure that the rapists were caught by 9pm,” an official who was in the meeting said.

“This case involves a heinous crime and my only concern was for officials to be on the field and ensure that the accused are arrested at the earliest. The SHOs have also been asked to be extra careful in dealing with such cases and ensure that action is taken at the earliest,” Khirwar said.
