Around 75,000 vehicles pay toll at the Kherki Daula toll plaza daily and a large majority of regulars had demanded that toll rates be in round figures.

As per the new rates, smaller vehicles such as cars, vans and jeeps etc. will have to pay Rs. 60 for a trip instead of Rs. 59. Rates for mini-buses and similar commercial vehicles have been reduced by Rs. 2. These vehicles will now have to pay Rs. 85 instead of Rs. 87. Toll rates for trucks and heavy commercial vehicles have also been reduced by Rs. 2 and they will now have to pay Rs. 175 instead of the earlier Rs. 177. The changed rates will be effective from Sunday (October 16).

Officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said the change in toll rate had been effected to ensure that vehicle owners save time and energy at the Kherki Daula toll plaza, which witnesses daily jams. There are also plans to build another toll plaza at the spot, but the lack of available land has put such proposals on hold, they said.

Meanwhile, the Toll Hatao Sangarsh Samiti held a meeting in Gurgaon on Sunday and discussed strategy to get the toll at Kherki Daula removed. The samiti decided that it will hold a march on November 21 and submit a memorandum to divisional commissioner D Suresh asking the chief minister to remove the toll.
