Management students accuse institute of duping them of lakhs

"In a span of two years, the IIPM has changed its universities three times - MS University of Tamil Nadu, Gulbarga University of Karnataka and Mahatma Gandhi University," said Neelam Dagar, a student of MBA in human relations.

The institute has 18 campuses across the country and offers various undergraduate and post-graduate courses in management with enrolment fees ranging from R5lakh to R18lakh. But the students of Sector 32 branch said the college has conducted only one exam in one and a half year.

"By this time we should have completed three semesters' examinations. But only one was conducted, with no results yet. But they have admitted us into the next semester. How is this possible?" said a student of MBA in marketing Dharmender Pal.

The protesters also complained against inadequate books in the institute's library. "What are we paying so much for? Many of us have taken loans for the admission. Now even banks have stopped sanctioning loans for this institute. We have been cheated," said Vivek Mishra, who is pursuing MBA in marketing.

On Saturday, some parents also went to meet the college faculty. But they were stopped by the bouncers called by the institute.

"My father wanted to speak to the professors because the results of the first semester examination had not been released yet. When he came here, they (the institute management) called bouncers who misbehaved with him," said Jitin Meerwal, a BBA student.

The academic head of the Sector 32 branch of IIPM said he is not aware of any protest. "I don't know anything about all this. I wasn't present at the institute on Saturday," said Subhashish.
