Anupam Kher: Nominations for The Big Sick are extremely gratifying
Actor Anupam Kher is over the moon after his film, The Big Sick, received multiple nominations at various movie awards across the globe.
Actor Anupam Kher is used to seeing his films get nominated at some of the most prestigious award ceremonies across the globe. Yet, when we asked him about his reaction to The Big Sick getting nominated at a slew of film awards, including the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and also being one of the 341 films shortlisted in the Best Picture category at the Oscars, there was a childlike excitement with which he replied, “I am honoured to be part of such a wonderful project. It’s extremely humbling that people are reacting to that film, and it’s getting nominated.”
The actor feels the nominations for his 500th film are extra special for a variety of reasons. “Nominations for this one are a bit special. It’s getting nominated at the critics’ awards. So, it’s not just the masses or the audience that like your film. Even your peers like it, and that’s an extremely gratifying feeling. Secondly, there are such good films and TV shows that are being made, and to be nominated among them all feels extra special,” he shares.
However, while “winning” is important for Kher, he won’t lose any sleep over not bagging any award. “Of course, winning an award doubles the joy, and you would want your film to win. But then, you have to realise that nomination is almost as good as winning, because your film is getting recognised among other films. That is what needs to be celebrated. I’m just extremely happy, humbled, and excited for all the nominations The Big Sick has received so far,” he says.
