Ali Merchant may be collecting applause for playing bad boy Rishi in Do Hanson Ka Joda, but the actor says he is desperate to get back his the lover boy persona. “I’m keen to play the chocolate boy again in the show. That’s what I enjoy most and even my fans like me for that,” he says.
“Rishi’s character is not completely negative. It has shades of grey right now. Soon he’ll get back to his charming self,” he says. Merchant’s other role, Rituraj in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, is also a favourite among his women fans. “Recently, while shooting in Delhi, a group of girls addressed me as Rituraj and even kissed me on the cheek. That was truly special,” he says, blushing.
Merchant has been going steady with actress Sara Khan of Bidaai for the past two years. “A lot of pretty girls have expressed interest in me, but it was Sara’s innocence and honesty that attracted me to her,” says the actor.
While in Delhi, Merchant admitted coming to the Capital every two months despite being a Mumbaikar. “And I love going to Karim’s for a hearty meal whenever I’m here.”
