The first trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, the sequel to one of the most successful musicals ever, was released online on Thursday, and it’s a treat for Meryl Streep fans.
The first trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, the sequel to one of the most successful musicals ever, was released online on Thursday. The film returns to the Greek paradise of the first film for a new gathering, which leads Amanda Seyfried’s character to go trace her mother’s story.
The film then goes into an extended flashback, in which Meryl Streep’s character Donna is played by Lily James. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again tells the story of how Donna became pregnant with her daughter - and who the father really is. Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard return, as well as their younger versions, played here by Jeremy Irvine, Hugh Skinner and Josh Dylan respectively.
The music is still as vibrant, as are the visuals and the characters. The first Mamma Mia was a breakout hit, grossing over $600 million against a budget of $52 million.
Here We Go Again is directed by Ol Parker, who previously wrote both the Marigold Hotel movies.
The film’s sprawling cast includes Seyfried, Streep, Firth, Brosnan, Skarsgard and Dominic Cooper, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Andy Garcia, and in a surprise cameo, Cher.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is scheduled for a June 20 release.
