A 12-year-old girl from Dubai, moved by the devastation in Kerala, has donated her birthday gift of a gold cake worth Rs 19 lakh to help the people of the state.

Pranathi Vivek handed over the cake that weighs half a kilogram to Mathrubhumi in Dubai on Monday towards the Kerala chief minister’s relief fund.

“Watching the news of floods in Kerala, she asked me about donating clothes and other stuff. Then she walked into her room and came with this gold cake and asked me if she could donate it,” her father Vivek Kallidil, who hails from Payyannur in Kannur district of Kerala, said.

The industrialist was more than happy to heed the request of the Class 8 student of Delhi Public School. He had gifted one gold cake each to his triplets Pranathi, Varnika and Dyuthi who celebrated their 12th birthday on May 5.

“She told me she had a good sleep yesterday (Monday) after donating the gold cake,” he said.

Pranathi, who is also called Minnu, has shown her kind side earlier as well.

“When we were in Kanchi Kamakodi Trust Hospital in Chennai earlier this year, Minnu saw a 15-year-old child struggling for hospital consultation charges and asked us to pay. We helped with the surgery of the child that cost around Rs 3 lakh,” Vivek said.

And, that was not all.

“Around two years ago, we happened to visit Pranathi School for special children in Calicut where children were struggling to walk a long distance to reach the door due to lack of parking for buses nearby. She prompted me to do something and I helped them buy four cents of land to develop a parking lot adjacent to the school building,” the proud father added.

He wishes his daughter’s gesture inspires other children in Kerala to do their bit for flood relief efforts.

“Teenagers can help rebuild Kerala,” he said.

Pranithi is not the only one as help has been pouring for the flood affected in Kerala from all quarters.

Nine-year-old Anupriya from Villupuram in Tamil Nadu gave away about Rs 9,000, she had been saving for four years to buy a bicycle, after she saw visuals of the deluge in Kerala on television.
