School teacher held for raping class 8 student in Karnataka’s Kolar district: Police

The girl told her classmate who brought the incident to the notice of the headmaster and other teachers

A 33-year-old teacher at a private school was arrested for allegedly raping a Class 8 student in Kolar district in Karnataka, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the teacher knew the 14-year-old and her family for two years. The accused used to help the girl in her examination and raped her time and again over the last six months, police said, adding that when the girl resisted, the accused would threaten to fail her in the examination if she told anyone.

The girl told her classmate who brought the incident to the notice of the headmaster and other teachers. When the parents of the victim came to know about the matter, they filed a complaint with Gownipally police. Based on the complaint, police filed a case and arrested the accused.

“The accused was working in the school since the last six years and sexually assaulted the victim girl,” Gownipally police sub inspector Srinivas Gowda told HT. He said the accused was booked under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 503 (criminal intimidation) and sections of the POCSO Act. The accused was produced in front of the Srinivasapura JMFC court which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. “We are probing whether the accused sexually assaulted other girls in the school as well. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
