Ambedkar statue goes missing from Haryana village

Tensions prevailed in Haryana’s Taraka village after a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar was allegedly removed by some unidentified persons, police said.

The police was informed about the matter on Thursday following which the administration deployed security personnel in large numbers to thwart any untoward incident, SP Sulochana Gajraj said.

“It is suspected that some unidentified miscreants removed the statue,” SDM S K Chahal said.

“The gram panchayat has said that the statue was installed without its permission and claimed that they were not informed about the installation,” he said.

The sarpanch of the village had also lodged a complaint with the administration, the SDM said, adding a probe into the matter had also been ordered.

The police have launched a manhunt for the miscreants, the SP said.
