Mattoo, a noted academician resigned, on Wednesday. It was not immediately know if his resignation was accepted.
Speaking to HT, Mattoo said there was “no difference of opinion with the regime and the decision was taken on personal grounds”.
“I will be leaving for Australia in a few days to pursue academics,” he said.
Mattoo was named the advisor to Mehbooba Mufti with the status of a cabinet minister in April this year. He also served as advisor to former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, who died on January 7.
Before that, he served as the chief executive officer and inaugural director of the Australia Institute and Professor of International Relations at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
Mattoo is also a teacher at Jawaharlal Nehru University teaching Disarmament Studies at the School of International Studies.
