5 killed, 5 injured as speeding bus ploughs into crowd watching orchestra in Bihar's Champaran
The deceased have been identified as Bahadur Mahto, Sanjay Kumar, Bhola Dubey, Devender Dubey and Jhangur Ram.
Five people died and five others were injured after a speeding bus ran over a crowd attending a cultural programme in Bihar’s West Champaran district, police said on Saturday.
Lauriya station house officer (SHO) Inderjeet Paswan said the incident occurred around 11pm on Friday when villagers had gathered to watch the programme marking the sixth day after the birth of a child at Bankatwa Parautola area.

“The crowd spilled onto the road while watching the orchestra programme. Suddenly, a speeding bus lost control while trying to avoid a collision with a truck and ploughed into the crowd. Five people died and five were injured,” the SHO said.
The deceased have been identified as Bahadur Mahto, Sanjay Kumar, Bhola Dubey, Devender Dubey and Jhangur Ram. The cultural programme was held on the occasion of ‘chhathi’ (an after-birth ritual) of Devender Dubey’s daughter. Police said the bus and truck have been seized and a search is on for the drivers.
Chief minister Samrat Choudhary expressed grief over the deaths and directed officials to ensure proper treatment of the people injured in the incident.
