“The campaign is aimed at developing a feeling in every person that the nation comes first and the individual is secondary,” Union information and broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters after a meeting of the BJP parliamentary party in New Delhi.

“It will provide an opportunity for the people to recall the supreme sacrifices made by freedom fighters during freedom struggle,” Naidu said.

A weeklong “Tiranga Yatra” to evoke nationalism and patriotism will also be undertaken from August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day, he said.

Members of parliament and state legislatures have been asked to take part in the Yatra, carrying the Tricolour and visiting their constituencies.

At the meeting, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley briefed the members about Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, which is to be presented in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar said, “We hope the GST will be passed.”
