Jaiveer Shergill resigns from Congress, writes about sycophancy, party's lost sync to Sonia
Jaiveer Shergill wrote to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Shergill said decision-making in the party is no longer for interests of public, but is influenced by self-serving individuals indulging in sycophancy.
Jaiveer Shergill resigned from the Congress on Wednesday, hours after he said that he had put in his papers from the post of the party's national spokesperson.
In a letter that Shergill wrote to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Shergill said decision-making in the party is no longer for interests of public, but is influenced by self-serving individuals indulging in sycophancy.
"The primary reason being that the ideology and the vision of the current decision-makers of the Indian National Congress is no longer in sync with the aspirations of the youth and modern India," Shergill's letter read.
"It pains me to say that decision-making is no longer for interests of public and country, rather it's influenced by the self-serving interests of individuals indulging in sycophancy and consistently ignoring on-ground reality," he wrote.
He was reportedly not allowed to hold press conferences for the past few months. "However, I shall forever remain indebted for all the opportunities the party has granted me during my association with it," Shergill added in the letter.
Speaking to reporters later, he said sycophancy and coterie are eating into the Indian National Congress as termites, adding those who are capable, want to serve the people, their voices are not heard.
Asked if he resigned from the party posts or the party's primary membership, he said both. Regarding his future plans, Shergill said they would only be known in the future, adding he had severed all ties with the Congress.
Shergill, a lawyer from Punjab, was a prominent face among the youth leaders of the party. This comes days after party veterans Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma resigned from role assigned to them in the party.
