Constitution Day: PM Modi, Amit Shah, Kejriwal among leaders to extend greetings

Constitution Day - or 'Samvidhan Divas' - is celebrated on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On this day, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect on 26th January 1950.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders - including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju - wished citizens countrywide on the Constitution Day. Sharing a video with his speech highlighting the importance of the Constitution, the Prime Minister wrote, “Today, on Constitution Day, we pay homage to those greats who gave us our Constitution and reiterate our commitment to fulfill their vision for our nation.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah called the Constitution "the lifeblood of democracy that protects the rights of citizens and gives them an opportunity to prosper".

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal called the Constitution the pride of our democracy and a symbol of citizens' rights and reiterated his party's agenda of making “India no. 1”.

Quoting Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge recalled the contribution of leaders part of the Constituent assembly and wished on the occasion. The Congress, meanwhile, also attacked the government for “crushing the soul of our democracy” and pledged to stand strong against the assault on the Constitution and uphold its values.
