Delhi sees rain, thunderstorm as IMD issues orange alert

Several areas of Delhi and NCR received rains and thunderstorms on Saturday.

Delhi and its neighbouring areas on Saturday witnessed thunderstorms, followed by rains as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a rain alert for the national capital and its adjoining areas.

According to the IMD nowcast, an orange alert has been issued for Red fort, Safdarjung, Bharat Mandapam, Lotus Temple and Akshardham. Light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed less than 40 kmph and moderate rainfall of 5-15 mm per hour is expected across these regions.

A yellow alert has been issued in Chandni Chowk, DU North Campus, and Qutub Minar in Delhi and Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad in NCR. These area would recieve light to moderate rainfall is over the next two hours.

IMD had earlier issued a yellow alert for today over the entire national capital including north, south and central parts of the city, with generally cloudy with very light to light rain accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning. The temperature for today was expected to remain between 24-36 degree Celsius.

Atleast eight people died in Gurgaon in the two days due to rain-related accidents as the region saw waterlogged roads, hampering traffic movement in several routes.
