The accused has been identified as Umesh Giri, who is a contractual employee from Uttarakhand.
The incident came to light on Thursday during her regular check-up when she hinted about it to one of the doctors, who then conducted a pregnancy test and found it positive.
Sources at the hospital said the woman was brought to the hospital’s State Institute of Mental Health in June this year after she was found abandoned in Gohana town of Sonepat district. A pregnancy test conducted at that time was negative.
“She is not able to express herself properly but she gave clear indications of harassment against ward boy Umesh. Senior authorities were informed who conducted more check-ups and informed the police,” Dr Prashant Kumar, official spokesperson for the hospital, said.
Giri was arrested on the hospital’s complaint on Thursday evening.
“After conducting the victim’s medical (examination) on Thursday night, we lodged a case and arrested him,” PGIMS police station in-charge Manjeet Singh said.
“He will be produced in the court today (Friday),” he said.
