Envoys from India’s key partner countries present credentials to President Murmu

Among those who presented their credentials were the new ambassadors of Bangladesh, Japan, the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates

The envoy of four of India’s key partner countries were among five ambassadors who presented their credentials to President Droupadi Murmu on Monday.

Among those who presented their credentials were the new ambassadors of Bangladesh, Japan, the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new envoy of Latvia also presented his credentials during the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Md Mustafizur Rahman, the new high commissioner of Bangladesh, was posted to New Delhi after a stint as the permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

Rahman is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 11th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service’s (BCS) foreign affairs cadre. He has served in different capacities in Bangladesh’s missions in Paris, New York, Geneva and Kolkata, and as the high commissioner to Singapore.

Hiroshi Suzuki, the new ambassador of Japan, earlier served as the executive secretary to late prime minister Shinzo Abe, and was present at all the meetings between the Japanese leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During his long diplomatic career, Suzuki has served in the United States, Italy, Iran and South Korea.

Ibrahim Shaheeb, the new high commissioner of the Maldives, is a career diplomat who earlier served as the chief of protocol and additional secretary in the foreign ministry. Before being posted to India, he served as the high commissioner to Singapore, at the permanent mission of the Maldives to the UN (2002-03), and also had a previous stint as the deputy chief of mission at the high commission in India during 2007-08.

Shaheeb also served as permanent secretary in the home ministry of the Maldives during 2013-15.

Abdulnasser Jamal Hussain Mohammed Alshaali, the new ambassador of the UAE, earlier served as the assistant minister for economic and trade affairs at the foreign ministry and as deputy sherpa for the G20. Juris Bone is the new ambassador of Latvia.

Bangladesh and the Maldives have special places in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and have benefited from a lot of development assistance. Japan and the UAE are strategic partners and members of crucial groupings that India is a part of, such as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue and I2U2.
