The details were given in a written reply in the state assembly by the home department under chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in response to queries of BJP member Sat Paul Sharma.

Sharma wanted to know the “source of funding of the separatists for spreading terror activities in the state”.

The home department said as per reports, foreign funds are being routed through various channels, including “hawala and Foreign Indian Currency Network (FCIN) to spread terror in the state”.

About the “particulars of identified separatist leaders found receiving hawala money”, the government said “no such report has been received in the recent past”.

A total of 17 cases – eight in 2013, five in 2014, three in 2015 and one in 2016 — were registered from January 2013 to May 12, 2016, with the arrest of 37 persons in hawala-related cases.

The reply said besides Rs 36,70,260 in cash, US$900 and 33 gold coins were recovered under hawala during the period.

The government response also revealed that as many as 116 persons were arrested for cases related to forged or counterfeit currency notes.

Fake Indian currency notes with a face value of Rs 51.15 lakh and US$ 6,980 have been seized since 2013, the home department said.

In response to another question, the home department informed that 259 militants or suspects were arrested in the past three-and-a-half years. The arrested militants also included 13 foreign militants.
