India and Pakistan exchange fire along LoC in Kashmir, no casualties reported

Army officials accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire in Uri by targeting three to four Indian positions with bullets and mortars.

Even as hostilities along the line of control in Jammu saw no let-up, Indian and Pakistani soldiers exchanged fire at Kamalkote in North Kashmir’s Uri sector on Thursday. However, there was no loss to life or property.

Local residents said firing was first witnessed in the forward posts of Kamalkote – the last village on the line of control – around 11 pm last night. The gunfire continued for an hour before stopping, and then began again in the morning.

Indian officials accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire in Uri by targeting three to four Indian positions with bullets and mortars. “The army responded with full force. However, there was no loss to life or property,” a senior police officer said.

The ceasefire has created panic among the villagers in the Uri region, especially Kamalkote. The army has accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire in order to facilitate infiltration.

Local residents recently demanded that the government construct underground bunkers to ensure their safety.
