A worker of the Jammu and Kashmir’s ruling coalition partner, Peoples Conference, was shot by suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara district on Wednesday and succumbed to his injuries in hospital, police said.

“Gulam Nabi Khoja was shot at outside his residence at Kralgund in Handwara tehsil today (Wednesday) evening. He was shifted to hospital in a serious condition where he succumbed,” a police official said in Srinagar.

The party is headed by Sajad Lone who is a minister in the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party government. Lone represents the Handwara constituency in the state assembly.
