A south Indian actor has accused a man of groping her while she was sleeping in a train in Kerala, and said she was upset by the indifference of most of her co-passengers. The man, Anto Bose, hailing from Tamil Nadu, has been arrested. The incident took place when the actor was travelling from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday night.

She said she was sleeping when she felt someone touching her. “I immediately caught the groping hand and switched on the light. I was shocked to see a man standing near my berth. He tried to pretend he had confused the berth in the dark, but it was a deliberate act,” she said.

Despite raising an alarm, co-passengers did not come to her help, the actor said. What really pained her was that most of the passengers pretended to be sleeping and some of them even asked her to forget about the incident. “Travelling alone I stood my ground. Then two people, including a script writer who was travelling on the same train, came to my help and summoned the police,” she said.

The railway police later arrested Bose for the alleged act. The actor said although she was shocked initially, she came out of it quickly and reacted. The actor began her career as a child artist and later acted in more than 40 films in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.
