Myanmar’s consul general U Pyi Soe, returning from a pilgrimage in Gaya with his wife, was killed in a road accident in Jharkhand’s Giridih on Friday when a truck rammed into a SUV he was travelling in, officials said.
Soe’s wife and an officer of his Kolkata-based consulate were seriously injured in the accident that took place in the morning.
Officials said they have been shifted to Ranchi’s Medica Super Specialty Hospital.
“The incident occurred under Nimiyaghati police station area of Giridih,” Jharkhand police spokesperson, RK Mallick, told HT.
He said the truck hit Soe’s Toyota Innova from behind when the driver of the diplomat’s vehicle braked suddenly to avoid hitting a motorcyclist.
“Our officers promptly reached the spot on getting the information and rushed all of them in the car to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced Soe brought dead,” Mallick added.
