At 6.45 pm on Wednesday, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar resigned from the ruling alliance, dissolving the famed Mahagathbandhan. Nitish’s decision was prompted by irreconcilable differences over the charges of corruption against ally Lalu Prasad and his family.

If the divorce was quick, Nitish wasted no time in entering into a new alliance with the BJP, his main opposition in the 2016 state election. But this is not the first time Nitish has played musical chairs -- in 2014, he had broken his long-term alliance with the NDA and cast his lot with the Opposition.

Even as the Mahagathbandhan died a quick death, #NitishGharWapsi trended on Twitter . Here is a round-up of the wittiest responses to the Bihar drama:

1. Who says politicians don’t have a sense of humour? Akhilesh Yadav was in the mood for this golden oldie.

2. Howzzat! This apt cricket metaphor summed up Nitish’s gambit.

3. Presenting Nitishasana, the new yoga routine you can follow.

4. Move over Sonam Gupta, there’s a new bewafa in town.

5. Even Jerry Seinfled knows the state of the Mahagathbandhan.

6. He resigned, he staked claim, he conquered.

7. A lot of Indians can relate to this one, surely.

8. Remember this photo? This is what the Prime Minister was really surveying.

9. The prodigal son returns.

10. And finally, political drama-shama aside, what the Biharis are actually waiting for.

11. And a bonus one, if politics makes you feel like an idiot.
