Girl raped, critical; father hacked to death in Odisha

The 50-year-old teacher and his 15-year-old daughter were asleep in their home in Khairapalli village when a youth named Nagen Das barged into their home and reportedly sexually assaulted the girl.

A man allegedly sexually assaulted the teenage daughter of a school teacher, before killing the teacher in Odisha’s Bargarh district early on Saturday. The accused also hacked the girl leaving her critically injured.

The 50-year-old teacher working in Kharipalli School as cluster resources coordinator, and his 15-year-old daughter were asleep in their home in Khairapalli village when a youth named Nagen Das barged into their home and reportedly sexually assaulted the girl. The incident occurred at 2 am.

When the teacher woke up hearing the cries of his daughter, Das reportedly hacked him to death. Soon after, the man also hacked the minor girl, leaving her seriously wounded. The girl was rushed to Bargarh district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Burla Medical after her condition deteriorated.

Police said the accused surrendered before them soon after the incident. “He told us that he sexually assaulted the girl and then killed her father to destroy evidence. We are yet to verify his claims as the minor girl is in trauma,” said Bargarh SDPO Suresh Naik.
