An irate mob attacked the police and resorted to arson after unidentified persons bludgeoned to death two persons and seriously injured another in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Friday.
The bodies of deceased Manish Kumar, 35, and his brother Niraj Kumar, 30, were found at Karnpura under industrial area police station at Hajipur, 25 km from Patna.
Relatives of the deceased turned violent while taking the bodies to Kaunharaghat here for cremation. They set on fire a police vehicle and chased away cops who had gone there to prevent an untoward incident during cremation.
Earlier, police said during morning patrolling they had found three persons lying unconscious at a secluded place under industrial area police station.
They were immediately taken to Hajipur sadar hospital, where doctors declared Manish Kumar and Niraj Kumar brought dead and referred the injured to Patna Medical College Hospital, Patna, the police added.
Manish Kumar and Niraj Kumar were accused in a recent firing incident, the police said.
The police said injured Bunty Kumar, 25, during the brief period when he regained consciousness at the sadar hospital, revealed that they were on way to meet an acquaintance when unidentified persons stopped their vehicle near the block office, just 100 metres from sadar police station and attacked them with stones and bricks.
The criminals fled after dumping them at an isolated place at Karnpura, 1.5 km from the scene of the crime, the police quoted Bunty Kumar as saying.
“Prima facie, the incident appears to be fallout of old enmity,” a police officer, involved in the investigation said on the condition of anonymity.
He said Niraj Kumar and Manish Kumar were named accused in the FIR registered in connection with an incident of firing at a person, identified as Rajiv Kumar, a month ago.
Meanwhile, one person had been detained for interrogation, while raids were on to nab other suspects, he added.
