Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani on Thursday moved the Supreme Court in his personal capacity against the decision of Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala to invite the Bharatiya Janta Party to form the government in the state, reports said.
“The governor’s order is a gross abuse of the constitutional power and this has brought disrepute to the constitutional office he has been holding,” Jethmalani submitted while seeking nod to submit his views in the case.
BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa took oath as the chief minister of Karnataka at the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru on Thursday morning, hours after the Supreme Court rejected a petition of the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) challenging the governor’s decision.
The top court did not dismiss the petition and permitted Yeddyurappa to take oath as the chief minister. It, however, made it clear that the swearing-in and government formation in the state would be subject to the final outcome of the case before it.
Jethmalani had represented Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the civil defamation case filed against him by Union finance minister Arun Jaitley in the Delhi high court.
