Revoke expulsion of students over fee hike, BMC tells Dahisar school
The education department made the decision as it is yet to receive a detailed report in the matter, which the school was asked in March to submit to the department.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) education department on Tuesday gave Rustomjee Troopers School, Dahisar a week to revoke its expulsion of over 40 Class 2 students over a fee dispute.
The education department made the decision as it is yet to receive a detailed report in the matter, which the school was asked in March to submit to the department.
“As per a hearing conducted with the school in March, it was told the school cannot take action against students till the report is submitted,” read the letter sent by the education department.
Officials from the school, however, said that their stand on the issue remains the same and that parents would have to clear their dues by April 23 for the expulsions to be revoked.
A statement released by the school on Sunday read, “We wish to emphasise that except for a handful, all parents have willingly paid the fees.”
Sainath Durge, member of BMC’s education committee, said, “The action taken by the school is unfair. If it wants parents to pay hiked fees, it should first submit its records and prove it is not making profits.”
The on-going dispute between the parents and the school is over the latter’s decision to hike fees for Class 1 by 38% in 2018.
