Although police at Nayapalli police station have refuted the allegation, three officers of the station have been shifted out and a departmental probe ordered into the incident.

The video was posted online on Friday and it went viral on social media soon.

It came days after an elderly woman and her daughter-in-law were thrashed by a police inspector in Puri district.

The girls were picked up on May 6 after they allegedly roughed up police personnel who had come to resolve a land dispute in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar.

They were released on bail on May 10, and a day later, they uploaded a video and pictures of their injury marks on their body on social media sites, showing deep red marks on their thighs and arms and accused the police of thrashing them.

Though Nayapalli police refuted the allegations, police commissioner YB Khurania said appropriate action would be taken after a detailed inquiry into the incident.

“An investigation will be carried out into the incident and action will be taken if the allegation is proved true,” said Khurania.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anup Sahoo said after the incident, the inspector of Nayapalli police station, Sangram Pattnaik, and two women sub-inspectors have been shifted out.

Officials of Nayapalli police station said a team of cops who had gone to the spot came under attack from a mob. An FIR has been registered in the case.

On Friday, Odisha DGP had suspended the inspector of a police station in Puri for thrashing a 75-year-old woman and her daughter-in-law at police station a few days ago.

The two women had come to the station to complain against each other when Nimapara police station inspector Mrutyunjay Swain got irritated and started beating the two.

Youth thrashed by cops

In a separate incident, a youth was hospitalised after he was allegedly thrashed by police in western Odisha district of Bargarh on Saturday evening over a parking issue.

Amit Sahu had a tiff with cops over parking of his cycle following which the cops on duty reportedly thrashed him.

Following the incident, local businessmen gheraoed the town police station and demanded action against the accused officers. Locals also blocked the road for hours and shut the market.

The youth’s mother has lodged a complaint against the police officers.
