'This is what Bihar has done...': RJD's swipe over PM Modi's 2017 tweet

A day after he went back to the Mahagathbandhan, Nitish Kumar will take oath as Bihar's CM for an eighth term, with RJD's Tejashwi Yadav as his deputy.

The BJP may have described Nitish Kumar's return to the Mahagathbandhan fold as an insult to voters' mandate, and also pointed to the frequent changes in his political alignments, the RJD, reacting to a July 2017 tweet by prime minister Narendra Modi, said that Bihar has a habit of taking ‘special decisions for India's bright future'.

“Yes sir, this is exactly what Bihar has done. BJP ministers were spreading dirt at the Centre and in the state. Sanghi goons were walking around naked, waving sticks and swords. Bihar, the mother of democracy, takes special decisions for the bright future of the country. This is the demand of the country today,” the party said on its Twitter handle.

On July 26, 2017, hours after Nitish Kumar snapped ties with the Mahagathbandhan and joined hands with the BJP, PM Modi had tweeted that for the better future of the nation, as well as Bihar, it was important to rise above political differences and, together, wage a war against corruption.

Kumar had left the grand alliance over corruption allegations against RJD leader and then deputy chief minister, Tejashwi Yadav, who is set to assume the same post in the so-called ‘Mahagathbandhan 2.0’. The exit of Kumar's JD(U) came around two years after the 71-year-old politician became chief minister for a fifth time after the alliance, in October-November 2015, emerged victorious in the state assembly elections.

After joining the BJP-led NDA, the JD(U) leader was sworn-in for a sixth term, and the next one came after the NDA – which he previously left in June 2013 – won the 2020 assembly elections.

At 2pm today, Kumar will be sworn in for yet another term, in a ceremony that will be held at the Raj Bhavan in Patna.
