Maharashtra govt to postpone MPSC exam scheduled on Oct 11
The decision to reschedule the MPSC exam was taken following a second round of meeting with various Maratha organisations.
Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that the state government has decided to postpone the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination scheduled on October 11. The new date for the MPSC exam will be announced soon, Thackeray added.
The decision to reschedule the MPSC exam was taken following a second round of meeting with various Maratha organisations after a previous one on Thursday, which was attended by Thackeray, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and other key ministers from the state cabinet for a dialogue with three delegations led by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) member of Parliament Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje, BJP legislator Vinayak Mete and Suresh Patil of Maratha Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti.
The Maratha outfits believe that in the absence of Maratha reservation, youth from the community may lose out on job opportunities in the government sector if the exams are not postponed till the quota matter is resolved.
The Supreme Court had on September 9 stayed the reservation to Marathas in jobs and education for 2020-21. The community was given reservations of 12% and 13% in employment and admissions, respectively, in 2018, under the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act. Many students had also requested earlier that the MPSC exam be postponed. More than 250,000 students have applied for the exam.
