In the general body meeting on Tuesday, the Sena has demanded that such builders must be penalised.

The committee has accepted the demand and the administration will look into it. The party has also accused developers of creating a class divide and inflate prices.

Shiv-Sena MP Anil Desai in May had written a letter to the chief minister demanding actions such penalty and barring them.

“By renaming the areas, the builders are insulting the localities, which have history attached to them. By renaming they (the builders) are also inflating the prices of the properties,” said Trushna Vishwarao, the leader of the House.

In the past few years, advertisements by several builders have been showcasing new names for the existing areas, including Kala Nagar as BKC Annex and Wadala as New Cuff Parade, Andheri as Upper Juhu among others.
