Uttarakhand saleswoman killed inside mobile phone shop during robbery

The woman has been identified as Pinky Rawat, a resident of Pauri Garhwal district. She lived with her brother in her maternal aunt’s house in Kashipur town and worked in the mobile phone shop.

A 22-year-old saleswoman was allegedly murdered inside a shop selling mobile phones by an unidentified man, who also robbed the place, in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh (US) Nagar district on Friday, police said.

The woman has been identified as Pinky Rawat, a resident of Pauri Garhwal district. She lived with her brother in her maternal aunt’s house in Kashipur town and worked in the mobile phone shop.

The police have found in their initial investigations that she was murdered at around 12.30pm when she was alone in the shop as the owner was yet to come.

“It was then that the accused came to the shop on the pretext of enquiring about some mobile phone accessories,” said Chandra Mohan Singh, station house officer of Kashipur.

“The victim then asked the owner [over the phone?] about the price of the accessory and was asked to wait saying he would be there in five minutes. After a few minutes when he reached the shop he was shocked to find her lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound around her neck.” the official said.

He then informed the police about the murder and also claimed that the accused fled with mobile phones worth Rs 1.50 lakh.

“The police are trying to identify the accused by investigating the footage of nearby CCTV cameras,” US Nagar’s senior superintendent of police, Barinderjit Singh, said.

“As soon as the police reached there, they rushed the woman to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead,” Singh said.

Police have formed teams to investigate the case and nab the absconding accused as soon as possible, he added.
