The Indian Army on Monday termed as fake the video of a man dressed in combat uniform alleging political obstruction from the Kerala government in its rescue and relief operations in the rain-ravaged state.
“Imposter wearing Army combat uniform in video spreading disinformation about rescue & relief efforts. Every effort by all & IndianArmy aimed to overcome this terrifying human tragedy,” the army’s additional directorate general of public information said in a tweet.
Flagging the video as fake, it appealed to social media users not to share it, while forwarding any disinformation about the amy on WhatsApp number 91-7290028579.
In the video, shared on a Facebook page called the Bharatiya Mahila Morcha Thalaserry Mandalam (since deactivated) and going viral, the “soldier” alleged Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan deliberately obstructed the army from carrying out a rescue operation in Chengannur, one of the worst-hit areas in the current spell of floods, caused by torrential rain since August 8.
