The accused was arrested on Friday from Meghlipara Tea Estate, 12 kilometre from Agartala, where he was living as a tea garden worker.

Police said Bachu, along with his father Mohan Kaul, had stolen the goat in 1978 from one Kumud Ranjan Bhowmik’s house, where he used to work. The father-son duo were caught while they were trying to sell the goat in the market. Both of them were released on bail by the court and since then they were absconding.

“ We got to know about the incident from Kumud Ranjan who is now 83. During investigation, we found Mohan Kaul died at Adarani Tea Estate almost 20 years back and some of his close relative works in Meghlipara Tea Estate. When we reached there, we found and arrested him finally. He admitted his offence and said he never knew that he will be arrested again,” said officer in-charge of Bodhjungnagar Police Station Sukanta Sen Choudhury.

“ Both the accused father and son were absconders for long after the bail and they skipped few hearing sessions in the court. The verdict of the case is still pending. As the district court served warrant regarding this case to our police station on August 14, we started investigation,” said Sukanta who joined the police station two-and-half months ago.
