A 27-year-old woman and her 11-month-old son were found dead at their home on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Friday, police said on Saturday, adding that they suspected a case of murder-suicide.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman may have first administered poison to the infant before allegedly dying by suicide,” said Meerpet police inspector Shankar Kumar Naik, adding that the woman’s 50-year-old mother was found unconscious at the scene. “The reasons for her losing consciousness are under investigation,” said Naik.
The husband discovered the bodies after he returned home from work, he added.
Quoting a complaint lodged by the woman’s paternal uncle, the police said the husband was allegedly harassing her mentally since their marriage.“Since the day of marriage, he allegedly tortured her mentally. He did not allow her to go out and speak to any other person,” he said. Based on the complaint, Meerpet police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.
“We are examining all angles, including allegations of domestic cruelty and harassment. Further action will be taken based on evidence and post-mortem reports,” the inspector told reporters.
