Bhupendra Kumar was found hanging inside a hotel room on Friday night when staff opened a room with a duplicate key. Police found a note titled ‘My Dreams’ with sketches of a house and luxury vehicles along with the suicide note.

In a case of apparent suicide, a youngster was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a hotel room in Dehradun on Friday night.

Police personnel trying to find the motive behind the act chanced upon a suicide note and the sketch of a luxurious house with cars and motorcycles parked around it. It was titled ‘My dreams’.

The man was identified as 19-year-old Bhupendra Kumar from Paingarh in Chamoli district. Police believe disappointment over not being able to fulfill his objectives in life may have driven him to taking the extreme step.

Employed in the kitchen of Hotel Shiva, Kumar used to reside in one of its rooms with fellow-staffers. “We were informed about his death by the hotel owner, DS Negi, around 9.30 pm. We brought his body down and sent it to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination,” said Kotwali station house officer BBD Juyal.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Kumar had joined the hotel barely a month ago. “He excused himself from their midst around 10 am on Friday, saying that he wanted to get a haircut,” said Juyal. “Nobody saw him after that.”

The police officer said Kumar was found by staffers only later that night, when they opened a room with a duplicate key and found him hanging inside.

According to Juyal, Kumar’s note stated that he was committing suicide because he was unhappy, and that he was sorry if his death has caused any sorrow to his family members. “Besides the suicide note, we also found a rough sketch of a multi-storeyed house, complete with a Honda City, a Bullet and an Activa. He even specified the colour of the vehicles as white,” he added.

The police officer claimed that the title of the sketch – My dreams – provided an insight into his mental state at the time. “It seems that Bhupendra Kumar had big dreams, but was depressed over not being able to fulfill them. His family members have been informed, and they will arrive here from Chamoli soon. An investigation is on,” he said.
