The Congress has decided to field former chief minister Harish Rawat from Ramnagar constituency in Nainital district for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand.
The ruling BJP on Thursday dropped 10 sitting MLAs and gave tickets to all 11 ministers in the first list of candidates for the assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

A five-member special investigation team (SIT) was constituted on Sunday by Uttarakhand Police to probe the hate speeches at a religious gathering in Haridwar
Haridwar hate speeches: The Uttarakhand Police said a five-member SIT led by a superintendent of police (SP) has been formed “for a fair and unbiased probe” into the December 23 FIR registered for hate speeches at the Dharma Sansad event in Haridwar.
The number of people accused of giving hate speeches at a three-day religious congregation rose to five in the complaint filed at the Kotwali police station in Haridwar.
The letter has also been addressed to CJI NV Ramana, home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.

Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar has sought a report from Haridwar’s senior police superintendent over a video that purportedly showed an investigation officer sharing a laugh with the Dharam Sansad hate speech accused
Notices have been served to Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, previously known as Wasim Rizvi, and Pooja Shakun Pandey, alias Annapurna Maa. However, a similar notice couldn’t be served to the third accused, Dharamdas Maharaj.
“Police haven’t yet send notices to the three named accused so far in the case to record their statements,” said inspector Rakendra Kataith, station house officer of Haridwar Kotwali police station, where a case was registered on December 23.
