The explosion took place at around 2.45 pm on Friday when workers of the factory, which manufactures and repairs parts of ships, were cleaning a portion of land at its backside, it said.

While Sanjeev Das, worker of the factory and a resident of Ashoknagar, was declared dead on arrival when taken to a hospital, the other two were being treated for injuries, they said. Bomb squad personnel, along with a team from Cossipore police station, have gone to the spot.

“The land is covered with heavy bushes and we are finding it difficult to search the area. We do not know if there are more bombs or explosives. The bomb squad has taken all precautionary measures for the search,” a senior police officer said from the spot.
