10 get life imprisonment for murder of Congress leader

Additional sessions judge of Nanded court AV Deshpande on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to 10 youths for ruthlessly killing a Congress leader in 2007.

All the accused are between 20 and 24 years of age. Prashant Medpallewar (25) was a youth Congress leader of the Tadoka village in Nanded district. On November 18, 2007, the 10 youths brutally stabbed him with sharp weapons in Jangamwadi locality of the city. After this, they pounded a 20-kilogram stone on his body and absconded from the scene.

Bhagyanagar police registered a murder case against the accused youths and arrested them. They were chargesheeted on February 15, 2008. 41 witnesses were examined while the hearing was on. After hearing was completed, the 10 youths were found guilty of murdering Prashant.

The convicts - Satish Prakashrao Vagre, Anil Marotirao Dongde, Saurabh D Kamble alias Bunty, V C Lingayate, Ganesh Madavi, SB Karande, Siddhu Raut, Vials Gangaram Waghmare, K M Ghadge and Kiran Phule were awarded life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1,500, each.

Advocate Alka Kurtidkar pleaded as public prosecutor.
