A Nigerian national and a Nepalese woman were arrested for smuggling 2 kg heroin, estimated to be worth more than Rs 2 crore in the underground market, police said on Saturday.
"Ojiakor Johanson (32) and Machi Aanchal (29), who were staying at a rented accommodation in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar, were arrested yesterday from the Ring Road in Tilak Nagar for allegedly possessing heroin. Their source has been traced to Afghanistan," said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
Police said they caught the duo after receiving a specific input that a Nigerian and a Nepalese woman in Tilak Nagar were involved in heroin smuggling.
"Johanson said he had come to India about a year ago on a business visa and shifted his base to Delhi recently after staying in Tamil Nadu for some time. However, he was found without valid travel documents and, hence, was staying illegally in India. In Delhi, he came in contact with
Annu through a fellow Nigerian," DCP Chand said.
According to police, Aanchal confessed to having that procured the contraband from a Nigerian national residing in Nepal at the instance of Johanson.
"She concealed the Heroin in a suitcase and brought it to Delhi to sell," police said.
