Two women of a family died and three persons were injured in a wall collapse following incessant rains in the district.

2Two women of a family died and three persons were injured in a wall collapse following incessant rains in the district for the past three days, police said on Monday.

Rambha (18) and her sister-in-law Urmila Devi (25) were killed in Kauripura village in Chauri-Chaura area yesterday when an abutting wall fell on their hut, police said. Three others, two of them women, were hospitalised with injuries.

Across the city, traders were busy cleaning up their water-logged shops. Angry shopowners protested in front of the city health officer alleging carelessness.

Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath visited the area yesterday yesterday and instructed district authorities to make arrangements to unclog the drains.

Heavy rains yesterday and on Saturday had flooded government offices and the City Commissioner residence.

Meanwhile, the civic body has started cleaning sewer lines. City health officer H P Khare said pumps have been installed in low-lying areas to flush out water.
