At a board meeting held on July 9, the Noida authority decided to hike the price of the flats by 31 per cent. It means a low income group (LIG) flat will now cost about R17 lakh (earlier R13 lakh), while the cost of an economically weaker section (EWS) flat will rise to about R9 lakh from R7 lakh.

On Thursday, allottees of EWS and LIG flats protested against the hike in cost of flats. About 20 out of 1,400 allottees staged a protest at the authority office in Sector 6 and met with CEO Sanjeev Saran and additional CEO Pramanshu. The allottees have demanded a roll back of the hike.

“When the authority has failed to give us possession on time, why should we pay for that? We will not pay the hiked cost,” said Chander Shekhar, one of the allottees.

The authority is reluctant to roll back the hike. “The hike has been approved in our board meeting. Normally, we cannot make changes in policy decisions approved in the board meet. CEO Sanjeev Saran has assured the allottees to look into the matter,” said Pramanshu.
