About 3,500 police personnel will be deployed at various venues hosting the three-day Pravasi Bharati Diwas, the annual congregation of NRIs in Chennai from January 7, following an E-mail threat warning of possible terror strikes, a top police official said in Chennai on Saturday.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, various union ministers and Chief Ministers of several states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat are scheduled to take part in the event.
"We have already inspected the Chennai Convention Centre and will ensure maximum protection to the visiting VIPs. We will deploy about 3,500 police personnel at important places like the airport,Chennai Convention Centre and at Maduravoyal" Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) T Rajendran told reporters in Chennai.
The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate a flyover at Maduravoyal on January 8.
