DODGED FOR long, the Special Task Force (STF) identified its very own ‘Daya Nayaks’ and hurriedly has shown them the door! At least three officers including a DSP were shunted out of the agency after the charges they faced were corroborated in an in-house inquiry.
The inquiry was ordered by DGP Bua Singh after Hindustan Times carried a detailed story on such ‘Daya Nayaks’ hitting the agency below the belt with their simply ‘unlawful activities’. According to sources, most tainted of them all, a DSP, has been shifted to Kanpur.
Of the two others, one is a company commander and another a head constable, have all ready been relieved for the districts from where they were picked up to work in the agency on deputation. The DSP, who is desperate to stay back in the state capital, tried hard to get the posting in the District Crime Record Bureau (DCRB).
The shifting is due to his conversations with jailed MLA Mukhtar Ansari and dealings with other Eastern UP mafia mostly in tender business. The conversations had taken place when Ansari was wanted by the police and he was getting regular tips of police operations against him.
Where as the constable who got a promotion as a company commander after a recent high profile killing in the Yamuna ravines in fact had given his service pistol to Mafiosi Abhay Singh. The pistol was used in killing of MLA Krishnananad Rai as the shells collected from the site bore the serial numbers allotted to this cop.
As for the other constable, he was under the scanner for his lavish lifestyle. Just seven years old in the force, the constable had expensive cars, thanks to the mafia. “This is just a tip of an iceberg, there are more to be given marching orders in the days to come,” said the source. The inquiry in fact was conducted by the SSP, STF SK Bhagat on the directives of the DGP who, sources say, wants percolate down a message loud and clear: Fall in line or face the music.
