33 killed in Lanka aerial bombings
Thirty three people were killed in 13 aerial bombings in the North Eastern Province of Sri Lanka in the last 12 weeks, reports PK Balachandran.
Thirty three people were killed in 13 aerial bombings in the North Eastern Province of Sri Lanka in the last 12 weeks, the LTTE's Peace Secretariat said in Colombo on Sunday.
The Tamil rebels said that 47 people were injured and 7,000 were displaced in the bombings which began on April 25.
The first aerial attack was in the afternoon of April 25 following the abortive attempt on the life of the Sri Lankan Army Commander, Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka, within the Army HQ in Colombo by a female LTTE suicide bomber.
The places subjected to aerial bombing were:
Muttur East, Mavila Aaru, Kathiraveli and Eachchilampathu in the eastern district of Trincomalee ;
Karuppadamurippu in the northern district of Vavuniya ;
The suburbs of the LTTE's headquarters town of Kilinochchi, Mankulam and Oddusuddan in the northern district of Kilinochchi;
Keppapalavu and Selvapuram tsunami camp in the northern district of Mullaitivu, where the Tiger Supremo, Velupillai Prabhakaran's hideout is located.
Tharavai and Karadiyanaru in the eastern district of Batticaloa.
