Demanding extension of the revised payscale of the state’s Fourth Pay Commission, including 40 per cent arrears, Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association President ED Nongsiang said, "if the government does not respond to our demands, then we will intensify our agitation."
Appealing to the teachers to withdraw their agitation, Education minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, the delay in the disbursement of the revised pay was due to shortage of funds.
"The government is committed to extend the fourth pay commission recommendations to the teachers of these schools at the earliest," she said adding that the students have been made "scapegoats" by the agitators.
