5 killed in collision between jeep and RBI container in MP

Five members of a family including a newly-wed bride were killed and nine others injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided head-on with an RBI container, about 57 kms from Betul, police said.

According to police, due to the impact of the collision, the jeep was smashed completely killing five persons including four women on the spot and injuring nine others in Rampur Bhatodi village.

The victims, identified as members of the Pawar family from Nazarpur village in Chhindwara district, were returning from a village near Itarsi when their jeep collided with the RBI container loaded with currency notes, police said.

Steps were taken to ensure safety of the RBI container that also overturned in the accident, police added.

Four of the deceased were identified as Arun, Jyoti and Mathura Pawar and Preeti (bride). The injured were admitted to a hospital at Padhar in Betul, police added.
