7.6 per cent votes cast in Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat

About 7.6 per cent polling has been recorded upto 0900 hours on Friday in Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency, where polling is being held in the first phase of five phased Lok Sabha elections in the state, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J-K, B R Sharma said.

The polling percentage in two assembly segments of Samba and Vijaypur in Samba district was 8 per cent, while it was 8.4 percent in Jammu district's 11 assembly constituencies of Nagrota, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu East, Jammu West, Bishnah, R S Pura, Suchetgarh, Marh, Raipur-Domana, Akhnoor and Chhamb, he said.

It was seven per cent each in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Sharma said.

Rajouri district has four assembly segments of Nowshera, Darhal, Rajouri and Kalakote, while Poonch district has three assembly segments of Surankote, Mendhar and Poonch-Haveli.

The highest polling percentage of 13.60 was recorded in Akhnoor assembly segment of Jammu district, while the lowest polling percentage of 2.63 was recorded in Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency of the same district in the first two hours.

The polling was slow initially with picked up pace across all the 20 assembly segments in the parliamentary constituency, he said, adding it is going on in a smooth manner and there were no reports of malfunctioning of electronic voting machines (evms) so far.
