Apropos of the report Sonia consults Manmohan, Maya (June 11), the names that are doing the rounds for President in no way match the stature of people like Radhakrishnan and Rajendra Prasad.
Apropos of the report Sonia consults Manmohan, Maya (June 11), the names that are doing the rounds for President in no way match the stature of people like Radhakrishnan and Rajendra Prasad. As a vast majority of Indians want President APJ Abdul Kalam to continue for another term, electing someone else would be against democracy. Politicians should rise above petty considerations and persuade Kalam to continue.

With Governor like TV Rajeswar, there will always be a need to have a President like Abdul Kalam. Sonia Gandhi could propose a second-term for the sitting President. If that is not feasible, then she should try for one who is equally capable and respected. The interests of the nation are far above any politics and political party.
