Chauhan said he withdrew due to “personal reasons” and the party has accepted his decision. “I will not contest the election but will continue to work for the party,” said Chauhan, a qualified civil engineer who claims to be associated with the party since its Janlokpal days.

AAP spokesperson Manish Sisodia said the party will soon select another candidate to contest from Krishna Nagar seat. He added that the new candidate may not come from the old shortlist of candidates.

“We will not let the Krishna Nagar seat go empty. We will certainly field a new candidate and our political affairs committee will soon take a decision. A number of prominent people from other parties want to join AAP and contest from this seat,” Sisodia said.

The Krishna Nagar assembly seat is represented by four-time MLA and prominent BJP leader Dr Harshvardhan, who is also a potential chief minister candidate of the party. The Congress is likely to field Dr VK Monga, former BJP councillor and chairman of public health committee of the unified MCD and also a close associate of Vardhan.
